Choosing the Correct Type of Extinguisher

It is natural to use the extinguisher located nearest to a fire. Thus, it is essential that the correct type and size be placed close to a potential hazard.

The following classes of extinguishers are suitable for the corresponding types of fires

CARBON DIOXIDE (CO²)

Carbon dioxide gives fast, safe, and effective protection for fires involving electrical equipment and flammable liquids. They are generally suited for use indoors, making them ideal for office environments. They are highly effective, easy to use, and leave no messy residue to clean up.

FE-36 AGENT

The FE-36 agent is an exceptionally effective fire extinguishant. Because it discharges as a liquid, it also provides an effective discharge range up to 16 feet. FE-36 replaces Halon1211 as the agent of choice for applications where the agent must be clean, electrically nonconductive, environmentally-friendly, and extremely low in toxicity.

FOAM-AFFF and FFFP

AFFF Foam
This 6 liter extinguisher fills many requirements for a lighter, more compact extinguisher. It has an easy and effective application with the patented spray nozzle. Use this extinguisher on B liquid spills to prevent ignition.

FFFP Foam
This extinguisher adds Class B fire fighting capability to the Class A effectiveness of the extinguisher. The alcohol-resistant fire fighting agent is effective on fires of a wide variety of Class B materials such as alcohols, polar solvents, hydrocarbons, and combinations such as gasahol. Applied to a non-ignited Class B liquid spill, it will seal the surface minimizing the chance of serious fire.

HALOTRON 1

This Halon alternative, portable extinguisher is designed to meet any special hazard need where Halon-1211 was specified and used. Halotron 1 is ideal for protecting office computer areas, data storage, telecommunications, and high tech clean rooms. Halotron has EPA approval and is the government approved and specified clean agent alternative.

WET CHEMICAL

Due to new and improved cooking appliances, higher heating rates, and industry trends towards using more unsaturated oils; the potential for severe restaurant fires is greater than ever. The 1998 edition of NFPA-10 contains a new Class "K" extinguisher rating to specifically identify and address these commercial "combustible cooking media" fire hazards in kitchens. The agent has been designed to offer the best portable fire protection available to supplement pre-engineered restaurant suppression systems.
